What happens during a Reflexology Treatment?
You should allow approximately an hour and a quarter of your time for your initial reflexology consultation/questionnaire which will be completed in strict confidence.
For me to build up an holistic picture
of you, around 15 minutes will be spent discussing any medical history; anxieties; lifestyle questions and symptoms you may have or feel may be relevant. This in an important aspect of the treatment as it is beneficial for me to have an understanding of all factors that may be affecting your health, including how you feel physically and emotionally.
You will have to remove all footwear and then lie down on the treatment chair fully clothed. Your feet will be wiped over with a refreshing solution. I will then use my hands to apply pressure to your feet. The application and the effect of the therapy is unique to each person. You may experience some discomfort in certain areas, however this will usually be brief and it will indicate areas of imbalance in the body.
Generally the treatment will feel wonderful, relaxing and soothing. Treatments will conclude with a relaxing foot massage. On the first visit it will be very helpful if you could make a note of any prescribed medication that you might be taking together with dosages. It is common to feel an increase in energy afterwards or just a general sense of calm and well being. The treatment should be enjoyable and elating.
Aftercare Advice
After a reflexology treatment, most people feel very relaxed and either a bit sleepy or energised by the treatment.
Some people can react to reflexology in a seemingly negative way (e.g. feeling tired, sick, off-colour or tearful).
Most people sleep well after treatment, but some find that their sleep is disturbed. These reactions are normal, and a response to the body ridding itself of toxins; they will normally stop after a few treatments.
If you have negative reactions, this does not mean that reflexology has done you any harm. On the contrary, it indicates that it is having a deep balancing effect on your body.
After a reflexology treatment, it is wise to try and take it easy for the rest of the day, to enhance the benefit of the treatment.
It is also important not to drink alcohol for the rest of the day and to drink plenty of water to help flush toxins out of the body.
